Bermuda Woman Recognized for Child Protection Efforts

Categories: News and Events, Other, Our Perspective, Things We Like

After four years at Darkness to Light, I continue to be so inspired by the very many folks out there doing amazing work in their communities to protect children. It’s one thing to have a great program like Stewards of Children, but it is nothing without the dedicated individuals who use the program to teach and advocate for children, to keep them safe from sexual abuse. I have made so many incredible friends through D2L, and today, I was yet again blown away. My very good friend and colleague Debi Ray-Rivers of Bermuda, who has worked tirelessly to create an organization there focused on ending child sexual abuse, was presented with a community service award for her efforts. I couldn’t be more thrilled for her and the many people who have worked alongside her on this important endeavor. They really are changing culture in Bermuda, shaping it around the safety of children. I congratulate my friend on this accomplishment, and thank all of you out there who are working so tirelessly on behalf of children. You inspire us every day!

Debi Ray-Rivers, pictured above, is the founder of Saving Children and Revealing Secrets (SCARS), a Bermuda-based charity dedicated to creating awareness of the devastating effects of child sexual abuse on children, families, and communities. Through Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children training, they teach individuals and organizations how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.
