Often when we think about giving, we conjure up images of wealthy philanthropists like Bill Gates or Warren Buffett. We have long associated charitable giving and making a difference with being wealthy, but nothing could be further from the truth! Sure, wealthy individuals play a key role as major donors—but the bulk of donations are made by individuals making small, consistent gifts

Prioritizing Charitable Giving

The power of giving comes out of giving from your heart—not because you have a lot of money or time to give but because the cause is simply important to you. So, let’s think of other things that are important to you…

How about your health? If your health is important to you, you may commit to healthy eating and a daily 6am run. Or perhaps, it’s your career that you value—so you invest time and money in honing your skills through professional development opportunities.

The point we’re trying to make is that prioritizing and committing to what is most important to us is something we do every day, and it’s no different with charitable giving. Giving is greater than the swipe of a credit card or the writing of a check—it’s a commitment of the heart to support what’s most important to you.

Prioritizing Child Protection

At Darkness to Light, we value the health and safety of children. Protecting them from sexual abuse is our greatest priority. If you share these values with us, the time to commit your support is now. You make choices every single day. Now is the time to choose whether you want to commit to keeping kids safe from the unimaginable harm of sexual abuse. Here are three things you can do today to prioritize the safety of the children in your life:

      1. Take the 45-minute training Talking With Children.
      2. Pick a training to share with a friend.
      3. Commit to a monthly recurring gift to Darkness to Light.

Once you’re ready to give, the next step is determining how to give. Joining Darkness to Light’s community of monthly donors is a great way to maximize your impact. A recurring gift of just $10, $20, or $50 provides long-term, reliable support that Darkness to Light counts on!

But giving financially is not the only way to give. Giving your time and attention to this critical issue can be just as impactful, if not more so. Subscribe to our monthly newsletter It Takes Courage Newsletter to stay up-to-date on all the ways you can help protect children every day.

Let’s change the world together, through the power of giving!
