You have probably heard something about the recent legislative changes regarding child abuse and child protection. For some of you, this may have raised some questions, including how will you recognize the signs of abuse and how will you respond when you suspect abuse.

Darkness to Light is an organization that was founded with the goal of reducing the incidence of child sexual abuse. Darkness to Light has created a prevention training program called Stewards of Children. For those of you who have found yourself seeking more information in light of the recent legislative changes, this training program could be incredibly beneficial.

The goal of this program is to raise awareness and educate adults about child sexual abuse. This program is proven to increase knowledge as well as change attitudes and behaviors regarding the protection of children. Stewards of Children is a two-hour, video-facilitated, interactive program. Participants of the program will not only gain a better understanding on how to recognize the signs of abuse, but they will also walk away knowing how to respond when they suspect abuse and how to better protect the children in their own lives.

Participants will also learn the effects of sexual abuse on child victims and will hear directly from child sexual abuse survivors.

Sexual abuse affects one in 10 children. Learning about sexual abuse is the first step in helping to prevent it. If the Stewards of Children prevention training program is something you would like learn more about, or a program you would like to participate in, please call the York County Children’s Advocacy Center at 717-718-4353 or visit www.d2l.org for more information.
