The American Association for Nude Recreation has been promoting “nudist experiences”in the United States since 1931. AANR’s mission is simple, “Advocate nudity and nude recreation in appropriate settings, and educate and inform society of the value and enjoyment of such through on-going member growth. [We hold a firm] commitment to fostering wholesome, nurturing environments that promote body acceptance and respect for all persons.”
True to their mission, AANR approached Darkness to Light last year about holding a weekend of child sexual abuse prevention trainings during their annual conference in August.
Pedophiles will find ways to be around children, whether it’s working at a day care or becoming a nudist. AANR recognizes this fact, and luckily took a bold, proactive step to prevent child sexual abuse in their organization.
This past August, AANR’s focus at their annual conference was the prevention of child sexual abuse. Too often, individuals and organizations pretend that sexual abuse wouldn’t permeate their lives, and too often we read articles in which people say, “we thought it would never happen here!”
We applaud AANR for being honest with themselves that they are at risk for attracting pedophiles, (as is any organization with children) and for having the courage to talk openly about the issue and take proactive steps to PREVENT it.
