Child Safety & Protection Collaborative of Centre County

“Centre County, PA leaders say child sexual abuse is not a matter of awareness-it is a matter of action.”  That is why community leaders are partnering with Darkness to Light to teach adults how to better protect children in their community.

The recently formed Child Safety and Protection Collaborative- consisting of members from the YMCA, Youth Service Bureau, United Way, and Women’s Resource Center- are bringing together community members to be trained as facilitators of the Darkness to Light program.

The Collaborative hopes to hold a facilitator workshop in the next few months along with increasing public awareness, increasing risk reduction, strengthening the mandated reporting system, and enhancing services to victims.

As Dennis Ditmer of the YMCA Centre County said, “The scandal at Penn State was a catalyst for us…It made us all realize we needed to collaborate to combat this issue to really change it.”
