Protecting Childhoods: A Community Conversation

Childhoods are worth protecting—and prevention starts with us. This public forum, hosted by Darkness to Light, creates space for honest, informed conversations about child safety and prevention. Together, we’ll explore how to recognize risk, respond when concerns arise, and take practical steps to create safer environments for children. These conversations may be difficult—but they are also powerful. When adults show up with care and courage, prevention becomes possible.

This forum is educational—not a place for legal advice or crisis intervention.

Even though my daughter is 19 going on 20, I still ask questions about her online gaming and chats - like what game are you up to these days and that typically leads to questions about what the game is about or who generally plays those types of games and how it is moderated.

I do feel like I learned much later in my life and in hers some of the important ways to integrate safety into every day conversations. I wish I had all those tools from when she was a baby, but I am grateful that it is never too late - they are never too old and it can model for the older ones healthy interactions for when they have kids themselves!
