Erika Rowell, Programs

Erika grew up in Colchester, Vermont. She studied Hospitality Management at Champlain College and proceeded to work in the event planning industry for 6 years. It was during that time that Erika gained a love for volunteering, specifically with Team in Training, part of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She participated in Team in Training for four races (three triathlons and one marathon), raising around $10,000 for the organization. It was during that time that she decided to make a career change and enter the non-profit industry. She joined Darkness to Light in 2011 as the Program Coordinator, and is now the Director of Programs. Erika played a vital role in the development and implementation of the revised version of Stewards of Children®, and all five of Darkness to Light’s additional training programs. She led the implementation of Darkness to Light’s online learning management platform, and has been a vital member of the team that has lead the way to train over 1.7 million adults in Stewards of Children®.  Erika is married to her husband Michael, and they have two beautiful boys, Hampton and Bowman.

What is your favorite childhood memory?
Spending summers with my younger sister, Kylie. I have so many amazing memories of her & I spending endless hours outside exploring the beauty of Vermont. We would ride our bikes for hours, swim in Lake Champlain, camp with our family, and make up games to entertain ourselves for hours on end. My sister is my favorite childhood memory, and I’m lucky to still call her my best friend.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I could eat pizza for every meal, for the rest of my life. I’m a health nut, but when it comes to pizza, I lose all self-control! I specifically love New York style pizza, but would never say no to a deep dish either.
