The Women's Leadership Initiative (WLI), a Committee of the United Way of Jamaica is focused on the identification and prevention of sexual abuse in children. In 2010, WLI introduced Darkness to Light in Jamaica and is the lead Organization to offer this training in the Island, with a trained facilitator in it's membership. Since 2010, they have hosted a facilitator workshop where 30 representatives from civic organizations, public and private sector child-support agencies, and human rights advocacy groups were trained as Authorized Facilitators to effectively deliver the Stewards of Children training programme in their Organization or Community. WLI has also sponsored and hosted Stewards of Children trainings for parents and educators, and assisted Organizations in the development and implementation of effective prevention policies.
Women's Leadership Initiative is leading a countrywide initiative training adults to prevent, recognize, and react to child sexual abuse. The mission of the prevention initiative is to reduce the occurrence of child sexual abuse through a coordinated effort by bringing Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children training to a variety of organizations and civic groups.
