Darkness to Light mourns the loss of Stewart Birbrower, well known as one of the finest minds in creative advertising, and a strong believer in the power of prevention education.

Stew passed away on June 14 at the age of 78, and is survived by Sylvia, his wife of 55 years.

In 2000-2001, Stew donated significant time and talent to write, produce, and direct the first Darkness to Light advertising commercials. These ads, “Faces” and “Swings,” went on to win gold and silver Telly Awards, as well as an Addy Award.

Stew’s passion was evident in all his work, and inspiring to those who were lucky enough to know him.

D2L President and CEO Jolie Logan remembers:

“I had the pleasure of spending the day with Stew and Sylvia last year. He was hands-down the best storyteller I have ever met, and he and Sylvia together were better than a Broadway show.

“Even greater than his humor and insight was the size of his heart and his willingness to do anything he could to help children in need. Our hearts go out to Sylvia and her family. If just one day with Stew Birbrower was that memorable, one can only imagine what a lifetime of incredible memories the Birbrower family will always cherish.”

We will always be thankful for the ways Stew used his energy and passion to create a safer world for our children. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

It was very gracious and thoughtful of you. If you are ever in need of my assistance in Dad’s absence, if I can help in any way, I am here for you. DTL will always be close to our hearts.
