Music mogul Missy Elliott revealed the extent of the sexual abuse she suffered as a child on VH1’s Behind the Music. Elliott said she was abused by her 16 year old cousin when she was 8. “Each day he wanted me to come to the house after school. It became sexual, which, for me at eight years old, I had no clue what that was, but I knew something was wrong.”
Elliott’s story is unfortunately not unique as 40% of child sexual abuse is perpetrated by a family member, and 10% of child sexual abuse is perpetrated by an older sibling.
Hi Kim…Just a quick note to “Thank You” so much for attending the “Moms Like Us” First Motivational Support Group. Though the turnout was not what I had hoped it would be, I feel we planted the seed for ongoing group meetings. I hope that we can combine our community efforts in future events.
